Your sump's size in litres: inside length × width × depth in feet, × 28.3. A sector-house sump of 9 × 5 × 5 ft holds 225 cubic feet, about 6,370 litres, so it's in the ₹2,799 band. A small one of 6 × 4 × 5 ft is 120 cubic feet, about 3,400 litres: ₹1,999.

One visit for the whole house: that 6,370-litre sump plus the roof tanks of a three-floor house, two of 1,000 litres and one of 2,000 litres: ₹2,799 + ₹699 + ₹699 + ₹999 = ₹5,196 including GST. On a 365 plan, each extra tank is ₹149 less: ₹2,799 + ₹550 + ₹550 + ₹850 = ₹4,749.

Sumps in Faridabad homes: what to know

Officials said in 2022 that Faridabad had no canal water supply. Most of its piped water is pumped from Ranney wells on the Yamuna riverbed and from municipal tubewells; FMDA runs the bulk mains and hands the water on to MCF's underground tanks, and MCF's lines take it to your gate. There isn't enough of it. In January 2025 the city's demand was put at about 450 MLD against roughly 325 MLD supplied, a gap of about 125 MLD. It reaches a sector house at set hours and low pressure, so it collects in the sump and a motor lifts it.

When the supply runs short, the sump gets topped up from elsewhere. More than 1,000 private tankers were working the city in 2024, and that summer a 3,000 to 6,000-litre load cost ₹700 to ₹1,200. Many plotted houses also run a submersible, which reaches water at about 100 ft or less on the eastern, Yamuna side and below 250 ft in most western pockets. All three drop what they carry at the lowest point: silt, tanker grit, borewell scale.

So clean a Faridabad sump every 6 months if it takes municipal water only, and every 3 to 4 months if tanker or submersible water goes in too. Do the roof tanks on the same visit, after the sump, or the first refill pushes the old silt straight back up.

Let us know when MCF water reaches your lane: we empty the sump just after it, and the next supply fills it again.

Two people, every sump

A sump is a confined space: one small opening, and air that turns stale after weeks shut. A US NIOSH study found about 60% of confined-space deaths were would-be rescuers. So the sump is opened and aired first, one technician goes in, and the second never leaves the opening. Then come the 9 steps, from draining and bucketing out the silt to disinfecting, rinsing and photos. Full process and safety: Underground tank cleaning →

After the lane floods: use nothing from the sump

In the rain of 7 to 8 August 2026, Sector 15 and Sectors 21C and 21D waterlogged, about a kilometre of the expressway service road near Sector 37 sat under 1.5 ft of water, and water got into homes in Sectors 14 and 16 and Old Faridabad. With about half the city's drain and sewer network reported choked or damaged in 2024, lane water can carry drain water. If it has stood over your sump cover, don't drink, cook or bathe with that water: pump it out, wait for the lane to drain, then book a clean. We photograph the cover's seal; a gap is a mason's job before the next monsoon.
