Balconies, window ledges and terraces vary widely in size, shape and the obstacles around them — grills, AC units, drainage pipes — all of which affect how netting needs to be cut and fitted. Because of this, a fixed price without a visit is not practical, and a technician measures the exact area on site before quoting a final price, subject to a minimum order for smaller jobs.
This visit also helps decide between netting and spikes, or a combination of the two, since narrow ledges and AC unit tops are often better suited to spikes while larger open balconies usually call for netting.
What installation involves
Once the area is measured and the quote confirmed, netting is cut and installed around the balcony or ledge, secured to prevent birds from getting in while still allowing airflow and access for you. Spikes are installed at specific points where they offer a more practical fit than full netting, such as along a narrow window ledge.
The installed work is checked for gaps or loose sections before the visit wraps up, since even a small gap can allow birds back in and undermine the purpose of the installation.
Living with netting day to day
Once installed, netting needs occasional checking, particularly after strong wind or heavy rain, which can loosen sections over time. Reporting any damage early allows for a straightforward repair rather than letting a small gap widen into a bigger access point for birds.
Keeping the netted area reasonably free of food scraps or nesting material helps too, since birds are persistent about finding any opening if there is a reason to keep trying, such as leftover food attracting them to peck at a weak point in the net.
