Roof tanks in Faridabad: what to know
First, whose tank is it? In a Greater Faridabad high-rise, the tanks on the terrace are the society's, and the RWA books their cleaning (Society & Commercial Water Tank Cleaning in Faridabad). In the plotted sectors, NIT, Old Faridabad and Ballabgarh, the tank on the roof is yours. A rebuilt sector house usually has one tank per floor, and with a different family on each floor, nobody remembers the last clean.
Why disinfect a roof tank at all? Because the water may not arrive with much protection left in it. Between January and March 2024, 55 of 80 drinking-water samples in Faridabad (69%) failed the chlorine test, and officials blamed broken chlorinators at tubewells and samples taken at the tail end of lines. Leakage and pilferage also cut pressure: about 7 lakh homes and businesses draw water but only 2.75 lakh connections are registered. Low pressure means more pumping from the sump, and its silt rides up too. On a warm roof, water with little chlorine left and a film on the walls is where algae and slime get going.
Faridabad roofs are hot. From May into June, afternoons pass 45°C and the water in a plastic tank comes out warm. Clean in April, before the heat, and again in late September, after the monsoon. On municipal water alone, every 6 months is enough; if tanker or borewell water goes in too, every 3 to 4 months. Your tank's size: a plastic tank usually has its capacity moulded near the top. For a concrete tank, multiply the inside length, width and depth in feet, then multiply by 28.3 for litres.
Lids, overflow pipes and monkeys
- Lids. A loose lid lets in dust, light and mosquitoes. We photograph every lid and tell you if it needs a clamp or replacing; clamps are quoted separately, and a new lid isn't part of the clean.
- Overflow pipes. An open overflow pipe lets mosquitoes breed inside the tank. Faridabad recorded 136 confirmed dengue cases by mid-November 2024, and health teams had issued over 4,300 notices for mosquito larvae since January. - Monkeys. Homes on the Aravalli side, around Surajkund and Charmwood Village, sit near scrub where a Wildlife Institute of India survey reported in 2017 recorded rhesus macaques. A monkey can lift a loose lid, so clamp it.

What a clean changes, and what it doesn't
A clean takes out the silt on the floor, the algae and slime on the walls, and the dirt under the lid, and disinfects the inside before it refills. It can't change what's dissolved in the water. A 2020 Rajya Sabha reply listed parts of Faridabad district as affected by groundwater salinity, fluoride, nitrate or iron above the limits, and none of that is touched by tank cleaning. If your tank takes borewell or tanker water, keep using an RO or other purifier for drinking; a clean tank sends less silt to its pre-filter.
