Work out your sump's size: inside length × width × depth in feet, then × 28.3 for litres. A villa sump of 10 × 6 × 6 ft is 360 cubic feet, about 10,190 litres. That's just over the 10,000-litre line, so it's priced at ₹3,299.

Sumps in Gurugram homes: what to know
Piped water in Gurugram comes from GMDA's Basai and Chandu Budhera plants, which treat Yamuna water brought in by canal, and MCG booster stations push it through local lines to homes. It arrives at set times and rarely with the pressure to reach a roof, so a villa or builder floor stores it in a sump and a motor lifts it upstairs. In some sectors it is also short: Newslaundry's June 2026 report lists Sushant Lok 2 and 3 and Sectors 56 and 57 among the tail-end areas, with residents of one Sushant Lok 2 block paying ₹800 for a 5,000-litre tanker.
So the sump gets a mix. Most households rely mainly on municipal water (85.3% in a household study published by India Water Portal, 14% on borewell), but many plotted homes keep a tubewell for the gaps. That groundwater is overdrawn, at 326.52% of the sustainable level in Gurugram Urban by the CGWB's 2024 count, and heavy with minerals: PHED data reported in 2018 showed TDS at some spots rising from 3,011 to 5,140 mg/L in a year. The sump, as the lowest point, keeps what each leaves: fine silt and a slimy film from GMDA water, white scale from the tubewell, mud and grit from tankers.
That's why we suggest cleaning a Gurugram sump every 6 months on GMDA water alone, and every 3 to 4 months if tubewell or tanker water goes in too. Clean the roof tanks in the same visit, after the sump, or the first fill carries the old silt straight back up.

When the lane floods over the sump cover
Gurugram has 159 listed waterlogging hotspots for the 2026 monsoon, and in July 2025 Golf Course Road and NH-48 went under after 133 mm of rain in 12 hours. A sump cover in the front setback or under a stilt is the first thing that water reaches. If muddy water has stood over it, don't drink or cook with the sump water: pump it out and book a clean once the lane drains. We also photograph the cover's frame and seal, since a gap there lets the next flood in; fixing it is a mason's job.
