Water in Sushant Lok

Sushant Lok's water problems are well documented. In May 2023, one Sushant Lok I family said it was spending ₹8,000 a month on tanker water, with a tanker costing around ₹4,000 depending on demand. Sushant Lok I and II were on the March 2023 list for a 30-hour shutdown, and the colony was on GMDA's May 2024 water-crisis list. In Sushant Lok 2's A1 block, a resident told Newslaundry in June 2026 they went without piped water five to six days a week through April and May and bought a 5,000-litre tanker twice a week for ₹800.

Sushant Lok I also had a sewage scare. In July 2024 the Times of India reported sewer lines not desilted for two years, overflowing sewage, and residents worried it was mixing with drinking water. A compliance report filed with the National Green Tribunal found overflow at two spots on 8 November 2024 (a blocked household inspection chamber, which was cleared) and none on 11 November.

Flood seasons on record

July 2024	About 600 families in Sushant Lok 2 and 3 affected; water stood three to four feet deep on the roads and entered ground floors and basements. The state minister ordered a joint GMDA–MCG inspection.
August 2024	Sushant Lok was the worst-affected colony in the city's heavy rain, with houses and cars damaged. "We have lost all hope," the RWA said.
July 2025	Sushant Lok flooded again, with rain entering houses, basements and ground floors in several colonies.

After the water goes down

A plan for a Sushant Lok house or floor once floodwater has drained:

Sump first. If water ran over or around the lid, don't use it until it's emptied and cleaned (two technicians, 9-step process).
Silt out, then scrub. A deep clean of the ground floor lifts silt from floors, skirting, cabinets and bathroom corners. ₹5,199 for a furnished 3BHK; bathrooms alone are ₹549 for one, ₹949 for two.
Sanitize what floodwater touched. Floors, door handles, kitchen counters: ₹1,799 for a 3BHK.
Mosquitoes within the week. Treat planters, drains and the indoor resting spots: ₹1,899 for a 3BHK. For a lawn, thermal fogging is ₹1,199 a visit.
Watch for cockroaches. They come up from flooded drains. Cockroach treatment for a 3BHK is ₹1,449.
Then check the woodwork. Damp wood near the floor is where termites show up later; ask for a free inspection.

Cleaning won't dry walls or fix seepage or a broken drain; those need a mason or plumber.

Water came into our ground floor. How soon can you come?

We think sewage got into our tank. What should we do?

Stop using the water, report the overflow to the authorities, and have the sump emptied and cleaned before refilling. Cleaning deals with the tank; the sewer line has to be fixed separately.

Is fogging enough for mosquitoes after a flood?

Fogging knocks down flying mosquitoes; treating breeding spots and indoor resting places lasts longer. For most houses we suggest both in the weeks after a flood.

Do you clean basements?

Yes, as part of a deep clean once the water is out. We don't pump out standing water.
