An older Raj Nagar house: a concrete tank cast into the roof, 6 × 4 × 4 ft inside (96 cubic feet, about 2,717 litres), and a 1,000-litre plastic tank added later: ₹1,499 + ₹699 = ₹2,198 including GST, or ₹2,049 for a 365-plan member.

Whose tank is it? Ghaziabad roofs explained

Start with ownership. In a tower in Indirapuram, Vaishali, Raj Nagar Extension or Crossings Republik, the terrace tanks are the society's, and the AOA or the builder's maintenance team arranges their cleaning (Society & Commercial Water Tank Cleaning in Ghaziabad). East of the Hindon, in Kavi Nagar, Raj Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Nehru Nagar and Patel Nagar, homes are mostly independent houses and builder floors, and the tank above your head is your own.

The water comes up by motor, from a sump or straight off the municipal line, and much of it is groundwater pumped by the Jalkal department's tubewells. Summer is rough on these tanks. In May and June, afternoons pass 45°C, a black plastic tank heats through, and light slipping past a loose lid starts algae; by the end of the rains the walls carry a green film and the floor a layer of silt and scale.

Plan on a clean every six months, the same gap the district health department asks of society tanks, or every three to six months if a household borewell tops the tank up. April, before the heat, and the end of September, once the rains stop, suit most families. Got a sump too? We clean it first, in the same visit.

Not sure of the size? Plastic tanks have the capacity moulded near the top. For a concrete one, multiply inside length, width and depth in feet, then multiply by 28.3 for litres.

Dengue checks start at the tank lid

Ghaziabad's dengue teams go house to house. In the two months to early September 2026 they found larvae at about 2,000 places, and their advice includes keeping water tanks covered. The season runs late, too: in 2025 the district's count rose from 178 cases on 7 October to 271 by 2 November.

  • Lid: it should sit flat and lock or screw down; a loose or cracked one lets in light, dust and mosquitoes. We photograph each lid and flag any that need replacing; lid clamps and overflow mesh are quoted separately.
  • Overflow pipe: an open end with no mesh is a way in for mosquitoes. A scrap of mesh tied over it closes it.
  • Birds: pigeons like perching on tank lids, and the first rain washes their droppings in. Netting keeps them off the terrace.

Larvae in coolers and pots: book mosquito control.

Hard water: what a clean changes and what it doesn't

A clean removes the silt on the floor, the algae and slime on the walls and the crust of scale in the corners, then disinfects the tank before it refills. It can't alter what's dissolved in the water, and in Ghaziabad that's a lot: Indirapuram's supply often tests above 1,500 TDS, and when Ganga water stopped at a Siddharth Vihar society in July 2026, residents fell back on borewell water of about 1,200 TDS. Carry on drinking from your RO. A clean tank also sends less silt to its pre-filter.
