Water in Siddharth Vihar: the plant next door

The Siddharth Vihar water treatment plant, 245 MLD, was opened in January 2017 to treat Ganga water. About 80% of its output goes to Noida, about 15% is distributed by GDA in Ghaziabad and about 5% goes to UP Housing Board colonies. So being next to the plant doesn't mean a society here gets steady Ganga water.

In July 2026, residents of Ganga-Yamuna-Hindon Apartment protested after about a week without Ganga water. By 13 July it had been two weeks; the society was running on its borewell, at a TDS of about 1,200, and most families were buying bottled water.

What hard borewell water does at home is visible: white scale on taps, shower heads, glass partitions and tiles, a crust in kettles and geysers, and limescale building up in tanks. A bathroom deep clean removes the scale that's there; it comes back as long as the water is hard. A tank clean scrubs out sludge and disinfects the tank, but it doesn't lower TDS. For that, the society or the flat needs a treatment or softening system.

Basements, the old drain and your society's tanks

An old brick municipal drain runs through Siddharth Vihar and also serves Vijay Nagar and Pratap Vihar. On 2 May 2025 it breached near an under-construction section beside a 24-tower society, and officials said about 30 million litres a day of wastewater flowed into occupied basements. Drinking water wasn't fully restored when that was reported, and lifts ran one per tower. GMC's chief engineer said the drain wasn't built for today's load, and a new cemented drain was planned. The same society's basements flooded again in the July 2025 rain, and once more in July 2026.

Underground water tanks and pump rooms in high-rise societies usually sit at basement level. When wastewater or floodwater fills a basement, ask your AOA or maintenance team to have the UGT inspected, emptied, cleaned and disinfected before it goes back into use, and the overhead tanks after it. Inside your flat, run the taps for a while once supply is restored, and clean any tank or storage that belongs to the flat.
