Water in Indirapuram

Indirapuram's water comes from two places. The municipal corporation's Jalkal department sends Ganga water from the Siddharth Vihar and Pratap Vihar plants, 15 and 7 cusecs, but demand is more than three times that, so groundwater is mixed in and TDS often goes above 1,500. Of about 200 samples the health department took from Indirapuram in 2025, 20 to 25% failed.

Most societies store that water twice: in a reservoir under the basement, then in a tank on top of each tower. In May 2024, more than 200 residents of one Vaibhav Khand society fell ill, and residents alleged sewer water had got into the underground drinking-water tank. The cause was never confirmed, and the society fitted a non-return valve on the line. For every khand, the practical lesson is about the sump: keep its lid sealed, check the valves that stop backflow, and clean it on schedule.

How often: the health department asks societies to clean overhead tanks every six months. We suggest the same for the sump, plus one extra clean after the October Ganga canal closure, when the khands run on groundwater alone for about three weeks. A tank clean removes sludge, scale and slime from the tank itself. It doesn't lower TDS, mend a municipal pipe or bring back supply; for hardness you need a softener or treatment unit.

Your khand since the handover: who books what

On 3 October 2024, GDA formally handed Indirapuram to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation under a ₹185 crore agreement. The corporation now runs the township's water mains, drains and roads. Inside a society that leaves three owners for three kinds of problem:

The municipal corporation: street mains, storm drains and sewers outside the society wall. A smell or colour coming in through the main is theirs to fix.

Dengue weeks in Indirapuram

On 7 October 2025, new dengue cases turned up in Indirapuram, and the district put Indirapuram (Maharajpur I), Makanpur and Shipra Sun City on its list of highly sensitive areas. On 2 November 2025, Indirapuram was still among the localities getting door-to-door checks and daily fogging. In July 2026, two days after heavy rain, water was still standing inside some Indirapuram homes and basements.

In a tower flat, mosquitoes breed in small places: the cooler tray, saucers under balcony planters, the drip pan under the fridge, a bucket left full in the utility area.
