Water in Rohini

Rohini's water comes from Haiderpur Water Works II through a 1,100 mm main, with a booster pumping station at Sector 7. Because so many sectors hang off that main, any work on it is felt widely, and DJB has scheduled long shutdowns again and again:

Groundwater is the other half of the story. Central Ground Water Board testing found iron above 1 mg/L in Sector 11, and homes that top up from a borewell may see brown marks on taps and tank floors.

What it means for your tank: a tank that has carried a household through a shutdown, then refilled with the first rush of returning supply, is the one most worth cleaning. A clean removes what has settled (silt, iron sludge, slime) and gives you photos; it doesn't take iron out of the water or speed up supply. A shutdown-day routine

DJB usually announces Rohini shutdowns a few days ahead. A simple routine keeps the house running and the tank in good shape:

Before: fill the rooftop tank and the sump, and keep a few covered buckets for drinking water.
During: run the house from the tank as usual; DJB tankers can be requested on 1916.
Supply back: if the first water looks muddy, use it for cleaning and washing, not drinking, until it runs clear.
Within a few weeks: if you see sediment on the tank floor or brown water from the taps, book a tank clean. If several tanks share your roof, clean them in one visit; 365-plan members get ₹149 off each extra tank.
