Water in Vasant Kunj

Delhi Jal Board supplies Vasant Kunj through one three-million-gallon reservoir near Sector B, Pocket 1. It takes water from the Sonia Vihar plant and passes it on to nine smaller underground reservoirs across the pockets (DJB officials to Hindustan Times, 2022). Vasant Kunj sits at the tail end of that network and on higher Aravalli ground, so when a main line breaks, the pockets take days to recover. Day to day, ThePrint (2026) calls the shortages occasional and mostly a peak-summer problem.

DJB also drains and flushes those underground reservoirs once a year, and in 2026 it went pocket by pocket: Sector B-1 on 18 February, Sector A Pockets B and C on 19 February, D-2 on 20 February, D-3 and D-4 on 23 February, C-1 on 24 February, and pockets in Sector D on 25 and 26 February. Each notice asked residents to store water in advance and offered tankers on 1916.

How to use that calendar: once your pocket's flushing is over and supply is steady, clean your own tank, so fresh water goes into a clean tank. Do it again after the peak-summer weeks if tankers topped you up. A clean takes out the silt and slime that settle in the tank you own; pressure, hours and what arrives in the pipe stay with DJB.

Living next to the Ridge and JNU

Vasant Kunj has open land on several sides. The South-Central Ridge, including the Sanjay Van forest, runs alongside Vasant Kunj; JNU's campus borders it on the west and south; and two natural water bodies sit within it, one behind Sector A and Pockets B and C and another on JNU Road. There are farmhouses in the land around it too.

Homes beside green land generally see more of what lives outdoors, and ground and first-floor flats see it first: ant trails after the first rains, lizards on balcony walls and crawling insects under doors facing a green belt. What we suggest for those flats:

Pockets, RWAs and river-named blocks

Vasant Kunj is run pocket by pocket. DDA's register of residents' welfare associations lists separate RWAs for Sector A Pockets B and C, Sector B Pockets 5 and 6, the B-7 SFS flats and each of the five river-named apartment blocks in D-6. Some pockets are a single large society: the one in Sector C-8 alone has more than 1,100 flats and over 3,500 residents.

When you book, give us the sector, pocket, block or apartment name and flat number. "D-6, Kaveri" or "C-1, block 4" gets the team to the right gate quicker than a road name. If your RWA keeps a visitor list, we send the technicians' names a day ahead.

Common property, such as a pocket sump, the roof tanks on a block or the stairwells, is booked and signed off by the RWA. We survey first, then quote one fixed price including GST for all the tanks. When flats in one pocket take a 365 plan, the 10% Society 365 discount applies from the 10th flat that joins (Society Plans).
