Built for one storey: plots, wood and water

DLF's original plan for Model Town allowed single-storey houses covering at most 25% of each plot. The result is a colony of low houses set inside gardens, with soil and beds running right up to the walls, and in the oldest homes, doors, frames and almirahs from the 1950s.

That combination is why the first job in an older Model Town house is an inspection, not a spray. Termites come up from garden soil into door frames and skirting; wood borer works through old furniture and leaves fine powder below it. Big plots usually store water twice: an underground sump and a tank on the roof. On DJB water alone, clean both about twice a year; clean the sump sooner if rainwater ever covers its lid. Sumps cost ₹1,199 up to 1,500 litres, ₹1,999 up to 5,000 litres and ₹2,799 up to 10,000 litres, with two technicians on every sump job; roof tanks start at ₹699, all including GST. Near Naini Lake and the parks

Naini Lake, a 6.5-acre lake in Model Town I, is in the middle of an MCD restoration worth 9.7 crore rupees under AMRUT, due to finish by July 2027. The lake has relied on borewell water in the past; the plan brings it treated water from the Coronation Pillar sewage treatment plant through a 200 mm line, sends surplus water to at least 10 nearby parks, and remodels a peripheral drain so that runoff from the surrounding streets stops collecting in the lake. The lake has overflowed before, in heavy rain in August 2021.

For homes nearby, the useful point is simpler: a lake, wet parks and garden beds all give mosquitoes somewhere to rest, and every pot saucer, fountain and blocked garden drain gives them somewhere to breed. Two jobs cover it. Thermal fogging of the garden, terrace and drains (₹1,199 a visit) clears adults outdoors at dusk. Mosquito control inside the house (₹1,599 for a 2BHK, ₹1,899 for a 3BHK) treats the places they hide indoors. Start in late August, when Delhi's dengue season builds, and empty standing water around the garden every week.

Is a big house too large for one deep clean?

No. A 5BHK or larger starts from ₹9,999, a kothi on several floors is priced by its BHK plus ₹849 for each extra floor, and very large houses are quoted after a free visit; we start in the morning.

How soon can you reach Model Town?
