Sizing: inside length × width × depth in feet, × 28.3 for litres. A Greater Noida house: a sump of 7 × 5 × 5 ft is 175 cubic feet, about 4,953 litres, so ₹1,999. Add the 1,500-litre roof tank at ₹999. Total ₹2,998 including GST, or ₹2,849 for a 365-plan member.

Sumps in Noida and Greater Noida homes: what to know
In Noida, sumps are typical of plotted homes. In the older sectors, roughly 14 to 37, the 40s and 50s, and 55 and 56, kothis and builder floors store Authority water in a sump and lift it by motor, because supply comes at set times and not always with the pressure to reach the roof. Greater Noida's lettered sectors and the Yamuna farmhouses follow the same pattern. What settles depends on where you are. The Greater Noida Authority says Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Eta 1 get 100% Ganga water and 52 of its 58 sectors are on the Ganga pipeline; Eta 2, Techzone, Xu 3 and Sectors 2, 4 and 16C were still waiting. Elsewhere it's Ganga water mixed with groundwater, and in Noida a blend of Ganga, Ranney-well and tubewell water. Canal water leaves fine silt and a slimy film; groundwater adds white scale and heavier sediment.
The sump is the lowest point, so its floor holds the worst of it. Clean it about every 6 months on Authority supply alone, and every 3 to 6 months with borewell or tanker water. After a flood or a pipeline leak
In the September 2025 Yamuna flood, farmhouses in Sectors 150 and 151 went under, low-lying land in Sectors 126, 128, 135 and 167 flooded, and water entered homes in Chotpur and Chhijarsi along the Hindon. A sump cover at ground level is the first thing floodwater reaches. If muddy water stood over it, assume it got in: don't drink or cook with that water, pump it out, and book a clean once the ground drains.
Leaks work more quietly. In January 2026, residents of Delta 1 in Greater Noida blamed sewage overflow and leaking pipes after several families fell ill; GNIDA denied any sewage mixing and fixed a supply-connection fault and a leak. Whatever the cause in a given case, a cracked inlet near a sump is a way in. After a pipeline repair in your lane, clean the sump. We photograph the cover frame, inlet and cracks; sealing them is a mason's or plumber's job.

If your house also has a borewell
Some plotted homes, and farmhouses more often, keep a borewell for when Authority water doesn't come. Noida's water table has been falling 2.5 to 3 feet a year, fastest between Chhijarsi and Morna and in Sector 16. Under the UP Groundwater (Management and Regulation) Act, 2019, every groundwater user in Gautam Buddh Nagar must register and get an NOC, and in December 2025 the district served notice on a large campus over borewells without permits. If you're unsure where yours stands, ask the district Ground Water Department.
For the sump, a borewell means cleaning every 3 to 6 months, with the borewell pump kept off until we finish.
