It is the first question most parents ask before booking: is pest control safe with a baby at home? With pets? During a pregnancy? The honest answer is that it depends less on whether you call a company and more on how the treatment is done. A good team uses the least product in the right places, tells you exactly what was used, and gives you clear instructions for the hours after. Here is how that works in practice.
What is used, and where
Most home pest control in Delhi NCR is aimed at cockroaches, ants, spiders, silverfish and lizards. For these, the safest and most effective method is not a spray across the room. It is:
- Gel placed in tiny dots inside cracks, cabinet hinges, drawer tracks and behind appliances, where cockroaches hide and children and pets cannot reach.
- Crack-and-crevice spray in a thin line along skirting, pipe entries and drains, not on floors, beds or furniture.
- Government-approved chemicals in measured amounts, with the product name written on your job report and shared on WhatsApp, so you know exactly what was used in your home.
General pest control for a 2BHK is ₹1,399, including GST, with a free follow-up within 30 days if the pests come back.
Children and babies
Children touch floors and put their hands in their mouths, so the rule is simple: keep them out of the rooms being treated, and bring them back only after the time the technician gives you, usually a couple of hours, once sprayed surfaces are dry. Gel treatment in the kitchen does not need the room to be empty for long, because the gel sits out of reach inside cracks.
Before the visit, put away toys, bottles and feeding things from the kitchen and the rooms being treated. After the visit, wipe the kitchen counters and dining table before putting food and utensils back.
Pregnancy
Tell us when you book. We plan the visit around gel and targeted treatment rather than open spraying, and we ask that the pregnant family member stays out of the treated rooms for the time the technician mentions. Many families simply plan the visit for a time when she can be out of the house for a few hours, which is the most comfortable option. Keep the rooms ventilated afterwards by opening windows and running the fan.
Pets
Dogs and cats should be kept away from treated rooms until they are dry, and their food and water bowls moved out of the kitchen before the visit. A few pets need extra care:
- Fish: cover the aquarium tightly and switch off the air pump during treatment, or move the tank to another room.
- Birds: move them out of the treated area completely; birds are sensitive to anything in the air.
- Rabbits, hamsters and other small pets: keep them in a room that is not being treated.
The herbal option
If you would rather use plant-based products, herbal pest control is available at ₹1,599 for a 2BHK. It has less smell and is gentler, which is why many families with infants, elderly parents or pets choose it. It still needs the same basic care: keep children and pets away while it is applied and follow the technician's instructions afterwards.
A short checklist
- Tell us about babies, a pregnancy, allergies, asthma and pets when you book.
- Empty the kitchen cabinets and drawers to be treated, and put away toys and pet bowls.
- Keep children, the pregnant family member and pets out of the treated rooms for the time the technician gives you.
- Ventilate the rooms afterwards, and wipe kitchen counters before putting food back.
- Keep your job report: it lists the product used, in case your doctor or vet asks.
Done this way, pest control protects your family from what cockroaches and rats carry, without putting them at risk from the treatment itself.
